an introduction

A little over a month ago I added a new member to my photographic family: a compact, dynamite little Canon Powershot SD1200 IS Digital Elph. While I love, LOVE my little A520, I wanted something smaller that I can just keep with me for everyday little moments. Something more casual, too, for when I am out and about with my peeps... the D80 definitely turns some heads (especially with the SB 600!) and the A520 was getting a bit clunky and slow. Some of the photos that I have posted recently were taken with the Canon (beginning with "Square Squared") while some were with my D80... depended on the day.

The photos below were all taken with the Elph. They may not be in chronologic order, but I am embracing the freedom to post randomly. Enjoy.

to market to market...
One day, on a quick breeze through the Issaquah farmers market, these little beauties caught my eye. This is the unedited version; straight from the camera...

... and after a few minor edits...

read the sign

This frame was taken at, well, at Alki. I was struck by the gorgeous blue sky and wanted a unique frame of a typical Seattle place. The only down side, is that at the moment I took this picture I had the melody of "The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle" and to this day I can still hear it when I look at the pic. ugh.

shimmy shimmy coconut
I think these were taken on the same day as the "la park audencia" post...makes sense because the hill is not one of my favorite places so I don't venture there too often. Siam on Broadway, however, WAS one of my favorite places. I was shocked and saddened to find an empty space. The quaint Thai place across the street was still pretty good, and I whipped out the Elph for a few random frames of the coconut ice cream.

Red mill... Finally!
On the way to Discovery Park a few months ago, my friend Tisa and I got lost (actually, just about everytime I go to Discovery Park I get lost. its a mystery) and we ended up on Dravus... as I was driving down the road I noticed Red Mill off to the side and enthusiastically yelped "oh look its Red Mill... we have to go there" and Tisa agreed and followed with "and THAT is why we are friends." Fast forward a bit, and dma and I found ourselves at Glazers picking up some lighting gear. I had been bugging him to go to Red Mill & we were finally in near enough proximity to pique his interest. It turned out to be a great photo op!

These are some images of the order turnstile as viewed through the glass. I liked the classic diner feel of the scene.

super spooky chair spooky. Thats right... just outside of this lively, friendly hamburger shop was a wierdo chair hanging out by the alley (there was a rather disturbing garage there too, but I didn't take any pictures of it...). I knew right away that I would be doing some dramatic editing, so I concentrated on setting up an interesting composition.
This is the unedited version of one of the frames. My inspiration of sorts.

and here is edit number one...

... and edit number two... spooky huh?

Not too shabby for a point and shoot that has minimal manual features, eh? Thankyou for viewing these images & I hope that you have a lovely and peaceful day.
