Rainy Rainy Rasar

Short version: dma & i went to Rasar State Park in early June. yay!

Long version: dma & i went to Rasar State Park in early June and it was very rainy. yay!


hahahahaaa...

Ok, so we went to Rasar, we have been there before & have returned again since this visit in June. It is the perfect combination of near & far. It is located just near enough to have a relaxed, non-rushed journey up there, yet far enough away to feel like a road trip. This particular trip was rainy. Super, super rainy. Thankfully, we are both native Washingtonians, so we just carried on, only seeking shelter under tree limbs when the rain ramped up to rediculous. Actually, the rain breaks were a blessing; it gave us a chance to mull over some photographic options down the road (ok dude, you've mentioned it on badnizl & I have mentioned it here... so, dang it, it is gonna happen! just as soon as I start my research....)

There is a country song that claims that "rain is a good thing." As it goes, rain makes corn & corn makes whiskey. Similarly, rain adds interesting ELEMENTS to photography. So, here are a few of my favorite pics from the day. Enjoy!

Blueberries!

On a lovely June afternoonish evening, DMA and I strolled through the blueberry fields in Bellevue. Hard to believe that after knowing this guy for over three years that this was my first trip there! I have never seen blueberry bushes before, so it was pretty cool to be able to walk around the fields!

I don't have anything really technical or special to note regarding these pics; mostly I was still trying to familiarize myself still with my D200 & work on composition.

oh, and there were blueberries there, too!

Nisqually

Good news! This is my last round of pictures from the month of May... now I can start on June's pics!

These were taken down at the Nisqually nature preserve; always a good spot for interesting subjects.

Highway 2

I am such a big fan of day trips :) A perfect day for me means filling up the gas tank, grabbing some diet pepsi & beef jerky, and heading out on the open road. Today, although crummy and cloudy was one of those days. Dma & I headed out Highway 2 stopping at a few places here & there, then ending up along the river with a fantastic view of Mt. Index.

I was soooo happy to use my d200 & as I edited these I found that I didn't do much to the photos besides a bit of cropping. Nice.

And Mt. Index! Ta-da!

Alki in May

oh gosh... another round of old pics! I am slowly but surely chipping away at the pics from this past spring & summer; guess I have had too much fun to sit down and edit/post!

This photos were taken on a nice, sunny afternoon in May. Dma & I joined the butcher & hmm-mmm for the Alki Street fair. Of course, I had to attempt a photo of an iris. A few years ago I took a picture of an iris in this same spot; only back then I had to have dma set up the camera for me. It is kind of amazing; back then I didn't know anything about f-stops and what in the heck to do to meter. So, here are the 2010 versions... (check out dma's website to see my old one)


And there were other lovely flowers around, too!

Even though I have lived in Washington for pretty much all my life, I am still like a kid when I see a ferry. Imagine how my world was rocked to see TWO ferries! AND cool clouds. wow.

I took some random street pics, too. This first one I am calling "Seattle Dude" because he is sporting a scholarly jacket/slacks look while enjoying a cup of Starbucks and a punch of flair via the red kicks.

There was a pretty sweet skate ramp thing set up, too, for the kiddos...

And no street fair would be complete without an appearance from the man of steel... if only it was tom welling... sigh ;)

Folder Mega Clean Out

oh.my.gosh.

These pics are soooo soooo soooo OLD! I took these back in May. Yep, May. They are from a trip to Lost Lake, an evening at Rattlesnake Lake & a quick trip to Spokane Street in Seattle. All were taken with my new (well, new to me!) D200. There are quite a few more adjustments available on the D200 (compared to my D80), but my favorite is the ability to change the white balance temperature.
