MIA

Oh man! I have been subtly busy for awhile. I am still working on some posts, but the outlook for this upcoming weekend seems hectic, so it is still going to be a while till I post again.

Good news, though, is that I AM up-to-date on my other blog, Simple Gifts; feel free to check it out: http://simplegiftsof2010.blogspot.com/

Padilla Boat

Padilla Bay:
Defintion One: An estuary at the saltwater edge of the large delta of the Skagit River in the Salish Sea. (source: http://www.padillabay.gov/).

Definition Two: The beach that tried to steal my boot while on a field trip in 4th grade. (source: my ever random data base of memories)

Saturday was soooo sooooo soooooo nice! DMA and I enjoyed living in the land of sunrays, enjoyed some of the finest teriyaki on the east side, then headed up north to catch the sunset at Bay View State Park. In short, a pretty awesome day.

There was a boat on the beach that we both found particularly captivating; we both had to keep our enthusiasm in check in order to share the scene. I actually used all three of the lenses that I brought with me that day, even though I was trying to go for a Lens Baby free day. (hahaha, guess I shouldn't have brought it with me then, eh?) I just figured "when in the heck am I going to be back here again" and went crazy. I think I dropped around 30 frames?

Here are some of my favorites...

the boat in black & white (yup, the lens baby)

front of the boat, unedited (70-300mm)

front of the boat, tiny edits

still the front of the boat (70-300mm)

side profile (18-135mm... the best lens ever.... besides my bff the 50mm)

sportsman (lensbaby)

old paint (lens baby, yeah! jazz hands)

...and here are a few more beach scenes that caught my eye...

Thank you so much for checking out my pics from Padilla Bay. Wishing you a lovely day. Hopefully with a bit of sunshine, too!

chugga chugga chugga chugga

If you like noise, then you are going to love this round of pics!

After a lovely Sunday morning with some of my old UW peeps, I headed over to dma's place to fill my quota of weekend frames. We figured we needed to find someplace close by, in order to savor the last of the daylight. Dma knew just the spot... the Snoqualmie train museum.

For all of these frames (including the last two at Snoqualmie Falls) I used my lens baby. I am horrible at manual focusing, and super shaky, so I ended up using a high ISO in order to maximize the shutter speed, hence the noisy pics.

Thanks for stopping by. Stay classy.... planet earth.

To the Port

Finally... Finally dma and I were able to make it over to the penninsula to explore the mighty fine town of Port Townsend. I have had it on my list for awhile and wanted to be sure to head over in the winter. It can get pretty darn touristy in the summer and I wanted as few random people as possible. Saturday ended up being kind of cloudy, but we found many interesting opportunities. I haven't even posted them all!

the hotel
The red and white awning of the Palace Hotel captured my attention. I loved the white curtains and white lights in the windows, too. It was just so quaint. I was happy to have the lens baby with me, because it seemed like it fit the scene. The vibrant colors were dreamy, but I converted it to black & white, too.... just for kicks.

down the street
While dma was setting up some frames of the intersection, I drifted over to a nearby building and took a bunch of frames of the side door. I liked the backlighting and the ornamental exterior.

coffee underground
Port Townsend has a ton of little coffee shops. I only went inside one, but they all looked pretty cool from the outside. There is even a coffee shop underground. dma and I both dropped a bunch of frames here... lights, coffee, bicycles, & bricks? The possibilities seem endless.

the random
these last two frames aren't part of a set of pics, just some things that caught my eye.

Thanks for checking out this round of pics! I am almost caught up with the pics from the weekend. amazing, yes? hahaaha...

corbean

Its been awhile since I posted a Corbin pic... he is growing so fast, I don't want to miss too much :) I was up in A-town today & FINALLY dropped off some gifts from our Aunt Nancy for my sister & her family. I took a few quick elph shots to pass along to my aunt, and this one is my favorite... he is opening a gigantic lolipop. The kid likes candy.... we are totally related ;)

Botansbaby

One day after work last week (ummm.... Thursday?) I headed straight to the Bellevue Botanical garden, eager to test out my new lens. I only had about forty minutes of light, but had fun anyway. Here are a few of my favorites...

p.s. someone needs to tell the plants that it isn't spring yet... like, stat!
